Augustus, 27 BC-AD 14. Denarius (Silver, 19 mm, 3.86 g, 7 h), uncertain Spanish mint (Colonia Patricia?), 18-16 BC. S•P•Q•R• CAESARI AVGVSTO Bare head of Augustus to right. Rev. VOT•P•SVSC• - PRO•SAL•ET•RED•I•O[•M•SACR] Mars, helmeted and cloaked, standing front, head to left, holding vertical vexillum with his right hand and parazonium in his left. BMC 438. CBN 1242. Cohen 325. RIC 150a. Beautifully toned and with a superb portrait struck in high relief. The reverse struck slightly off center from a somewhat worn die, otherwise, extremely fine.
